Leonel was born in Braga, Portugal. He graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and from the Opera School of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with distinction. Throughout his Guildhall Artist Fellowship, Leonel was a guest teacher of singing at City University of London and a Learning Repertoire Coach at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

His engagements have included: Don Jose Carmen (Mid Wales Opera, Deloite Ignite Festival at the Royal Opera House), Macduff (Cover) Macbeth (Scottish Opera), Alfredo La Traviata (European Chamber Opera/Bangkok Grand Opera, Bermuda Festival/Opera A La Carte), Lucio Otello (Buxton Festival), Il Messaggero Aida (Royal Albert Hall), Cavaradossi Tosca (Charles Court Opera/Musique Cordiale  Festival  in  Provence),  Gherardo  Gianni  Schicchi  (Opera  Holland Park Christine Collins Young Artists), and Luigi Il Tabarro (Grimeborn Opera Festival).

Leonel has been a regular at the Wexford Festival Opera, where he has sung Kozak in Maria, Showman in A Village Romeo and Juliet, Achille di Rosalba in Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze and Gastone in La Traviata.

Leonel is the recipient of the Patrick Libby prize for acting. His future and recent plans include singing Il  Duca in Rigoletto (Devon Opera), and his Royal Festival Hall debut in Mozart’s Requiem alongside the English Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Chorus.  For more details of Leonel’s activities, please visit www.leonelpinheiro.com
