'M is for Music': 2023-4 season announced

Sunday 2nd July 2023

Q: what do sackbuts and electric guitars have in common? A: each of these instruments will feature in one of our concerts next season!

We are delighted to be able to offer you an eclectic range of music in our forthcoming season, with masterpieces spanning more than 400 years. The earliest of the major works dates from 1610, the most recent from 2018. We will be accompanied by everything from organ and orchestra to sackbuts and electric guitar!

11 November 2023 : M is for Mozart

All Saints’ Church, Leamington Spa

A Requiem for Remembrance: our Autumn concert will feature Mozart’s powerful Requiem, and three deeply moving settings of Miserere mei, Deus - the most famous by Gregorio Allegri, the others by Brazilian composer José Maurício Nunes Garcia and Mozart’s friend and contemporary Marianna Martines.

16 December 2023 : M is for Merry Christmas!

Holy Trinity Church, Leamington Spa

Our Christmas matinée will once again feature a number of local choral gems, as well as a scintillating and spectacular half-hour cantata, Make We Merry by David Bednall. Expect both beauty and fireworks, alongside familiar favourites for choir, brass, organ, and percussion.

16 March 2024 : M is for Matthew

King's High School, Warwick

Our Spring concert features the UK première of a major work by Grammy Award winning composer Craig Hella Johnson, his Considering Matthew Shepard. This oratorio is a musical response to the tragic real-life consequences of intolerance and prejudice, leading us from anguish to understanding.

11 May 2024 : M is for Messiah

St Mark's Church, Leamington Spa

Our “Come and Sing” Day will - for the first time in a number of years - return to Messiah, with Lee’s characteristic fresh interpretations. In a season of Ms there was no way we could miss out what is perhaps the choral masterpiece. We know that this event will attract a large number of singers, so put the date in your diary now.

13 July 2024 : M is for Monteverdi

St Mark's Church, Leamington Spa

Our final concert of the season will be a performance of an undisputed joy-filled masterpiece by Claudio Monteverdi: his Vespers of 1610, which the choir has not performed for nearly fifty years! We shall again be partnered by the period instrument ensemble Charivari Agréable.

Please note that the date of this concert has changed since the paper calendar went to print - 13 July is the correct date.
